Mariners Win Season Opening Exhibition Game

June 18, 2011 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA - The Pulaski Mariners took the field for the first time this season for an exhibition game against the Catawba Valley Stars. The start of the game was delayed due to rain, but once the skies opened up, so did the offense for the Mariners.

Luke Taylor (Woodinville, WA) took the mound for the Mariners to start the game, throwing two innings on one run ball, while striking out four.

After trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth, the Mariners bats came alive thanks to RBI doubles from both Guillermo Pimentel (Azua, Dominican Republic) and Franklin Christian (Upland, CA), as well as a two out RBI triple from Patrick Brady (Lexington, KY) to extend the lead to 4-2.

The big fourth inning would be all the Mariners would need as they went on to win the game by a score of 5-3.

The Pulaski Mariners officially start their season on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., as they welcome the Danville Braves to Calfee field for their first game of six on this homestand.
