Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA - Both teams were ready to go early Friday night as the Pulaski Mariners took the field for the first game of three against the Princeton Rays. The first inning presented an explosion of offense by both teams, with each scoring three runs in the first. Excellent pitching would carry the Mariners the rest of the way as they won the game 6-3.

Princeton wasted no time marking the scorecard with back-to-back singles by Ryan Brett and Taylor Motter to start the game. They both later scored on a ground ball by Justin O'Conner and an RBI double by Jake Depew.

The Mariners were quick to answer in the bottom of the first. After a leadoff walk by Jamal Austin and a double by Jean Acevedo, cleanup hitter Guillermo Pimentel stepped to the plate. With the crowd still restless from the offensive showcase put on by the Rays earlier in the inning, Pimentel swung at the first pitch he saw and hammered a no doubt homerun deep over the wall in right field. The three run bomb (second of the year) tied the game at three all at the end of the first.

Jordy Lara led off the bottom of the fourth inning for the Mariners with a solo homerun to left center to give the Mariners the lead 4-3. The go-ahead shot was his first homer of the season. Pulaski added two runs in the fifth and sailed the rest of the way winning 6-3 and taking complete control of first in the Appalachian League East.

Eduar Quinonez (0-1) was hit with the loss for the Rays, allowing four earned runs and walking four batters. Dylan Unsworth (1-0) started the game on the mound for the Mariners, going five innings, allowing one earned run, and striking out five in a winning effort. Reynaldo Sabala (2) earned his second save of the season for the Mariners pitching two innings of work. Allowing no runs and recording one strike out.
