
Mariners release 2008 schedule

PULASKI _ The Pulaski Mariners (Pulaski, Va.), of the Appalachian rookie baseball league, have officially announced their 2008 schedule. The team will kick off the inaugural season on June 17 with a three-game set at the Princeton (WVa.) Devil Rays, and then return home for three-game set with the Elizabethton Twins.
Pulaski returns to league action after a year absence after the Toronto Blue Jays pulled out in 2006.
The schedule includes five Friday night contests, six on Saturday, five on Sunday, four on Thursday, five on Monday, four on Tuesday, and five on Wednesday. Highlights include an afternoon July 4th contest with free admission. First pitch of that game will be at 2 p.m., while all others will be 7 p.m.
Home contests are: June 20-22, June 30-July 6, July 11-13, July 23-28, August 2-7, August 11-13, August 18-23.
The first game of the best of three 2008 Appalachian League Championship Series will take place on Wednesday, August 27th at the home ballpark of the Eastern Division champions. The second and third game would be played in the home stadium of the Western Division champions with game 2 on Thursday, August 28th and the game 3 on Friday, August 29th if necessary.
