Mariners Drop Series Opener Against Twins

Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski VA - The Pulaski Mariners returned home Saturday night to take on the Elizabethton Twins for the first of a three game series. Solid pitching along with plenty of run support for the Twins made life difficult for the Mariners all night, as they were shut out for the second consecutive home game, losing 7-0.

The Twins started the game off guns hot, with a lead-off home run from Elizabethton's JD Williams to give them the early lead. They would add to that lead in the third inning, with the first of four RBI's from third baseman Roy Larson. His two out single scored Max Kepler to make the lead 2-0.

Larson would strike again in the sixth inning batting in RBI number two, three, and four on a one out home run that pushed the score to 5-0. The Twins bullpen took over from there, and cruised to a 7-0 final score.

Derek Christensen (3-2) earned the win for the Twins while Dillon Unworthy (4-3) was hit with the loss. Christensen threw five innings of shut out ball, allowing 5 hits, two walks, and struck out three along the way. Unsworth went four innings and allowed two runs on six hits.

For the Twins, Miguel Sano and Max Kepler both went 2-4 with two runs scored. Matt Parker went 3-4 and Roy Larson went 2-5 with four RBI.

For the Mariners, Jean Acevedo had a 3-4 night and Bryan Brito went 1-3 in a night where runs were difficult to find.

Game two of the series will be tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Calfee Park.
