Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA (July 4, 2011) - The Mariners returned home on Independence Day to take on the Bristol White Sox in game one of their four game series. After over a two hour rain delay, both teams hit the field for what started as a pitcher's duel. In the end the Mariners offense proved superior, leading the way for a 6-3 victory.

With the game scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth, Bryan Brito changed that for the Mariners with an RBI double off the center field wall that scored Jose Hernandez. The Mariners added two more runs in the inning with an RBI single by Jamal Austin and an RBI triple by Jean Acevedo.

After Guilermo Pimentel hit his fourth homerun of the season to push the game to 4-0, the White Sox answered back in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single by Grant Buckner, followed by a clutch two RBI double by Collin Kuhn to tighten up the game 4-3. The Mariners pulled away from there with a solo homerun from Kenny Straus and RBI double from Jordy Lara in the bottom of the inning.

Reynaldo Sabala pitched two and two thirds innings of relief allowing only two hits and no runs. Angel Raga closed the game out for Mariners, striking out three batters in the final inning of the game.

Dylan Unsworth earned the win for the Mariners, and Darwin Matos was credited with the loss for the White Sox. The Mariners will take the field again Tuesday as the look to defeat the White Sox on two consecutive days, that game starting at 7:00 p.m.
