Mariners Bats Quiet, Fall to Burlington 9-2
July 26, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release
Pulaski, VA- The Mariners produced a slim three hits Thursday night at Calfee Park, resulting in a 9-2 loss against the Burlington Royals.
The first game back after a three-day break did not pan out exactly how the Mariners drew it up. SP Wander Marte struggled out of the gates, throwing 66 pitches in a mere 2+ innings while allowing 4 runs on 3 hits, 4 BB, and striking out 4 batters.
Going into tonight's matchup, Burlington's Fred Ford and Patrick Leonard lead the Appalachian league in homeruns with nine a piece. Ford continued the power trend as he blasted a 2-run shot in the 2nd that was estimated at 430'+. Not to be surpassed, Leonard gave the Royals an 8-2 lead in the fourth when he sent a curveball deep with two runners on.
The lack of offensive production was the achilles heel for the M's. Tyler Marlette (1B), Jabari Henry (2B), and Jordy Lara (1B) were the only Mariners with hits on the night.
Pulaski will take on Burlington again tomorrow night, 7 p.m., in the second game of a three game series at Historic Calfee Park.
WP: Fairchild (1-0) LP: Marte (1-3)
