AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Marcum to join AFL on NBC this week

May 12, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK – May 12, 2004 – NBC Sports' three-game regional coverage of the Arena Football League Sunday at 3 p.m. ET is highlighted by the lead match-up of the Los Angeles Avengers (7-6) facing the New York Dragons (8-5). Tom Hammond (play-by-play), Pat Haden (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (reporter) will have the call.

Tampa Bay Storm head coach Tim Marcum will join AFL on NBC studio host Al Trautwig and analyst Glenn Parker to provide halftime commentary and postgame wrap-up interviews. Marcum, the winningest head coach in Arena Football history, entered the 2004 season having won seven ArenaBowl championships and has coached in ten of the league's 17 ArenaBowls. He is also the only coach in Arena Football history to lead three different teams to ArenaBowl championships (Denver in 1987, Detroit in 1998-99, and Tampa Bay in 1995-96, 1998 and 2003).

In NBC's lead game, Los Angeles battles New York in a match-up that will have significant playoff implications. With only the top eight teams making the playoffs, New York stands at No. 7 while Los Angeles is tied with Orlando for the No. 8 position. The Dragons currently have a two-game winning streak that they look to continue with the help of their quarterback Aaron Garcia. The Avengers fight for their playoff berth lead by the AFL's 2003 "Offensive Player of the Year" Chris Jackson and their quarterback Tony Graziani.

Sunday's complete AFL on NBC schedule:

Los Angeles (7-6) at New York (8-5): Tom Hammond (play-by-play), Pat Haden (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (reporter)

Dallas (6-7) at Chicago (9-4): Bob Papa (play-by-play), Ray Bentley (analyst) and Mark Schanowski (reporter)

Colorado (9-4) at Indiana (7-7): Bill Weber (play-by-play), Charles Davis (analyst) and Marty Snider (reporter).
