
Maniacs Announce First Signing

Laurel, MD (September 13, 2008) - The Maryland Maniacs of the Indoor Football League (IFL) announced Donnie Woods, a former University of Maryland Terps' offensive line standout, as the expansion team's first signing.
"Donnie is exactly the kind of player any franchise would like to build around," stated Maniacs Owner Jerome Nichols. "With his experience at the Division 1 level, and the size that is needed to compete in this league, Donnie is an excellent addition to the Maniacs and we are proud to name him our first player."
Woods who started 24 games for the Ralph Friedgen led Terps, including the 2006 Citrus Bowl, played in a total of 32 games for the Atlantic Coast Conference team. As an offensive guard, he surrendered only one sack in is career, to Chris Long, the number two overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams.
After a highly decorated high school career at Jefferson High School in Tampa, Florida, where he was ranked as the #6 offensive guard in the country, he was highly recruited by Florida State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and LSU. Lucky for Terps' fans he chose the Maryland.
