Manchester Wolves News Release

MANCHESTER, NH-- Manchester Wolves Head Coach Danton Barto plans to select his final roster for the upcoming 2009 arenafootball2 league season following an intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday.

The scrimmage will be held at the Hampshire Dome in Milford, NH from 11 AM until 1 PM on Saturday, March 21st and Wolves fans can get a close look at what the returning veterans, rookies, and new players have accomplished thus far in training camp. Following the players' performance in full gear on the field, the coaching staff will finalize its evaluations and name the players selected to be on the team this season.

Players to watch include rookie quarterback Mike Potts (6-4, 220), who was in camp with the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers last summer and is vying for the starting job with returning veteran James Pinkney. The talented cast of veteran and rookie wide receivers in camp this year include Emery Sammons, Deyon Williams, and Corey Williams. Steven Savoy, Carlton Brown, Howard Gilmore, Jerome Touchstone, Graylin Allison, and Deqwan Young impress as dangerous two-way players at wideout/defensive back.

Rob Green, who played for the Wolves in past seasons and spent the last two in the af2 coaching ranks, returns to the field as a defensive specialist. His experience and leadership add an interesting slant in the secondary, where rookies Martel Vanzant and Brandon Isaac have been learning the arena game with the help of fellow veterans TC Myers and Al Phillips.

The Wolves offensive and defensive lines will have an almost entirely new look in 2009, as Marvin Wright and David Tash are the only players to return from last year and Tash spent the season on injured reserve. Dwan Wilson, who was a force at linebacker despite injuries in 2008 and can also play fullback, is the only veteran at his position in camp and is being challenged by rookies Paul Jefferson and Matt King.

The scrimmage also features the debut performance of the brand new Lady Wolf Pack dance team and promotional squad, which will take the field at half time.

The scrimmage is open to the public and season ticket holders may pick up their packets there. Wolves staff members will be available to sell season, partial season, individual, group events, and fundraiser tickets to anyone wishing to purchase them.

The Wolves open their 2009 season on the road on Friday, March 27th against the defending American Conference East Division Pioneers in Wilkes-Barre and then have a bye week before traveling to Green Bay to take on the defending Midwest Division Blizzard on Friday, April 10th. The Wolves will face the Albany Firebirds in their home opener on The Acting Loft Field at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday, April 18th.
