Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 3/18/09 - Not only is Amarillo Dusters quarterback Matt Basseuner (bass-EE-ner) competing for a starting position during training camp-he will also find himself competing against a hockey player and one legendary hunk of meat.

Basseuner will take on Amarillo Gorillas defenseman Sam Ftorek-and a very large slab of cow-as he attempts to eat the famed 72-oz. steak offered by The Big Texan restaurant in Amarillo.

The legendary Big Texan has long offered the steak free to anyone who can eat the meat, in addition to all the ‘fixins', within one hour. The Dusters' 6'2", 205-pound gunslinger will attempt to not only eat the meal within the time limit, but defeat Ftorek in the eating contest as well.

While Basseuner may not have a future career as a professional eater, he might have one as an actor. The 24-year-old quarterback serves as a stunt double for the television series "Friday Night Lights", playing this season as the rising freshman star signal-caller for the profiled team.

Both players will be at The Big Texan Monday night, with the competition starting at 7:30 PM. The winner will receive a special award from Gorillas and Dusters Owner Randy Sanders.

Meanwhile, the Dusters will host Oklahoma City as the two teams kick off their arenafootball2 regular season schedules at the Amarillo Civic Center on March 27. Tickets are available by calling (806) 350-PASS (7277).

THE AMARILLO DUSTERS are a member of the arenafootball2 league. The team front office is now located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo. Season ticket packages for 2009 are available by calling (806) 350-PASS (7277), and start at just $96 a seat.
