Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - The first half of the Colorado Mammoth's 2007 National Lacrosse League season was almost perfect.

As the second half gets underway at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Pepsi Center, the Mammoth can atone for the one blemish on its league-best 7-1 record with a victory over the Calgary Roughnecks.

Off to the best start in team history, the Mammoth is looking to further its West Division lead over the Roughnecks and Arizona Sting, who are tied for second at 4-2.

The Roughnecks topped the Mammoth 17-13 on Jan. 20 in Calgary after the Mammoth had beaten the Edmonton Rush the previous night.

"It was a close game for three quarters and then we just kind of ran out of gas," Mammoth coach Gary Gait said of his team's only loss. "I am very happy with the way we've responded and I think we're in for another good matchup on Sunday."

Number crunching

§ Mammoth captain Gavin Prout enters this weekend's slate of NLL games with 29 assists, tied for the league lead with Casey Powell of the New York Titans.

§ Defenseman Pat Coyle is one minor penalty away from becoming the league's all-time penalty minutes leader. He has 361 career minutes in the box, just one shy of Neil Doddridge's all-time record.

§ Forward Dan Carey ranks third in NLL goals with 20, and in points with 44.

§ Goaltender Gee Nash leads the league with a 6-0 record and a .799 save percentage. His 10.02 goals-against average is second only to Philadelphia's Matt Roik.

"Gee is very focused and playing well," Gait said. "I think the guys are doing a good job in front of him and he's making the big saves when we need them."
