Malone to Miss Game Due to Illness
February 2, 2003 - NBA G League (G League)
Columbus Riverdragons News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga., (Feb. 2) â Columbus Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone will miss tonight's game against the Roanoke Dazzle due to illness. Coach Malone is suffering from a case of food poisoning, according to Riverdragons head athletic trainer Charlie Weingroff.
Malone, the only head coach in team history, has coached the Riverdragons in 84 consecutive regular season games over the past 1 ½ seasons.
Riverdragons assistant coach Rob Werdann will fill in for Malone on the bench this evening. Werdann, in the middle of his third season as a pro assistant coach, will make his first appearance as a head coach at tip-off.
Werdann does have experience stepping in to take the reigns of the Riverdragons, but only following the ejection of Malone during a game. Most recently, Werdann coached the Riverdragons in the second half of an eventual 89-80 loss to Greenville, Dec. 7, 2002 - following Malone's ejection at 1:59 of the third quarter.
The Riverdragons (13-15) host the Dazzle (15-13) tonight at the Columbus Civic Center at 6 p.m.
