Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (September 3, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, today announced that the Mallards' uniform jersey has been named best in the IHL by www.thehockeynews.com.
The Mallards' jersey came out on top of those of the six other IHL teams and was lauded by The Hockey News for its "cool colors" and "great new logo." The Mallards' sweater will now be entered into the magazine's poll of the very best jerseys throughout the sport. Fans can vote for the Mallards' jersey at www.thehockeynews.com starting Thursday, September 10.
"As a jury, when we looked at all of the IHL logos together the [Mallards'] green really stood out to us. The Mallards' logo was very modern but at the same time had kind of a classic look to it," said www.thehockeynews.com writer/editor Ryan Kennedy. "It goes without saying that our eyes were drawn to the Mallards' jersey right away. We really appreciated the whole package and combination of colors they used."
While Mallards replica jerseys are not yet available for purchase to the general public, Mallards full season ticket holders can take advantage of a special exclusive offer available only to full season ticket holders and receive $20 off the regular price of adult replica jerseys if they pre-order their jersey before September 24 by calling the Mallards at 309-277-1364. The regular price for a Mallards adult replica jersey is $110; full season ticket holders who take advantage of this special offer can purchase their jersey for just $90. In addition, youth replica jerseys, normally $100, are available for just $80 to season ticket holders who pre-order. Jerseys can be customized with name and number for an additional $70 when the Mallards' merchandise shop at the i wireless Center opens at the start of the regular season.
"Season ticket holders are the fans most likely to buy Mallards replica jerseys to begin with so this is a nice way to give our committed fan base a break on the price," said Mallards Vice President of Ticketing and Business Development Ryan Simmons. "This is just one of the exclusive benefits included in the most fan-friendly ticket plans in professional hockey."
The jersey discount does not apply to ICE ROW Cold Pass ticket holders, who will receive, courtesy of the Mallards, one free replica jersey per ICE ROW Cold Pass account.
The Mallards' uniform design was created by Michigan-based graphic designer Matt Kauzlarich. Each of the three jersey designs- white home, green away and black alternate- neatly blend the Mallards' team colors of midnight green, mallard green, waterproof aqua, flash orange, light pewter and white.
"I was very excited when the Mallards contacted me about designing their logos and uniforms. It was literally 'a dream come true,'" said Kauzlarich. "Designing the Mallards' look was very challenging. They are a team with a lot of history and success, yet they needed to reinvent themselves in a bold and fresh way, so finding a design was a challenging process. When I finally came up with the final design, I immediately knew that was the one that would be the Quad City Mallards."
Though still a junior at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Indiana- where he is pursuing a degree in Art Administration with a focus in Graphic Design- Kauzlarich already boasts a lengthy client list. Among those for whom he has provided designs or redesigns for uniforms, logos and business marks or overall look are Major League Gaming, the Bakken Bears, the Horsens Pirates, the Colonial Collegiate Hockey Conference, Richmond University hockey, Danville Inferno hockey, Sophisticated Sports Cars and Michigan Circle Track Racing.
"I can't wait for the Mallards to take the ice this season," said Kauzlarich. "I know it will be a moment I'll never forget."
After the Mallards open their first IHL season on the road against the Flint Generals on October 17, Mallards fans will have their first chance to see the Flock take to the ice in its award-winning threads when the Mallards return to the i wireless Center on Saturday, October 24 for their home opener against the defending Turner Cup champion Fort Wayne Komets. The home opener will also serve as the culmination of "Hocktoberfest," a celebration of all things hockey in the Quad Cities. For more information about the most fan friendly season ticket plans in professional hockey, fans can contact the Mallards at 309-277-1364.
