
Mallards to Battle Bloomington Twice in Preseason

MOLINE, Ill. (September 1, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards of the AA+ International Hockey League today announced that they will play exhibition games against the Bloomington PrairieThunder on Saturday, October 10 at 7:00PM in Decatur and Sunday afternoon, October 11 at 2:00PM at the Quad City Sports Center in Davenport. Ticket sales to the October 11 game will benefit the Quad City Hockey Association's youth programs.
"We are glad to have this chance to work together with both the Quad City Hockey Association and the Quad City Sports Center," said Mallards Executive Vice President and General Manager Shawn Hackman. "This is one of the first steps in the Mallards' relationship with the QCHA as we partner with them to help continue to grow youth hockey in the Quad Cities in the months and years to come."
Admission to the October 11 game is $3 for all tickets. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, September 9 and can be purchased by calling the Mallards' offices at 309-277-1364. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the game.

Together, the Mallards and the QCHA have agreed upon a variety of new initiatives that we will work on together to advance the visibility, growth and prosperity of hockey in our community," said QCHA President Larry O'Brien. "We are very fortunate to have a partner of this high caliber and we are very appreciative that they have chosen the QCHA as the recipient of the proceeds from their first-ever home exhibition game. As a not-for-profit organization we have to rely on fundraising to cover our operating budget and this event will go a long way in helping us fund our youth programs. The QCHA strives to provide a foundation for the growth and development of USA Hockey in the Quad City area. The QCHA's programs are designed to increase youth participation in the local hockey community, improve skills and provide a responsible environment for the growth of each child in their hockey experience.
After opening their first IHL regular season on the road against the Flint Generals on October 17, the Mallards will return to the i wireless Center for their home opener on Saturday, October 24 against the defending Turner Cup champion Fort Wayne Komets. The home opener will also serve as the culmination of "Hocktoberfest," a celebration of all things hockey in the Quad Cities.
