Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (July 28, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced they have signed goaltender David McKee. Per club policy, no contract terms were announced.

McKee, 27, last season went 7-6-3 with a 3.72 goals against average and a .891 save percentage in 18 games with the Odessa Jackalopes.

"McKee is a very athletic and competitive goalie," said Mallards head coach and general manager David Bell. "I am confident that he will bring stability and leadership to his position."

After three outstanding seasons at Cornell during which he was named a Hobey Baker award finalist and collected a host of other honors, McKee began his professional career in 2006 in the Anaheim Mighty Ducks organization, which was then headed up by Brian Burke- now the president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"David is a very gifted goalie with extremely quick feet and hands," said Burke. "He is a great kid that I think the world of. I have no problem vouching for David as a goalie or a person."

McKee spent most of his first three pro seasons in the ECHL, where he tended goal for the Augusta Lynx, Phoenix Roadrunners and Bakersfield Condors. The Irving, Texas, native went 29-15-2 and posted a 3.35 goals against average, a .898 save percentage and one shutout in 52 games with Augusta in 2006-07. The 6' 1", 187-pound McKee first played in the CHL two seasons ago when he appeared in five games with the Allen Americans, for whom he went 2-3-0 while turning in a 3.95 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.

Over the course of his pro career, McKee has gone 58-51-13 with a 3.38 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.

McKee's career collegiate numbers are hugely impressive- he went 65-24-13 with a 1.71 goals against average, 18 shutouts and a .926 save percentage in 102 games with the Big Red. McKee's sophomore season at Cornell- 2004-05- was a banner year. In addition to his selection as a Hobey Baker finalist, McKee also earned All-America East, All-ECAC and All Ivy League First Team honors and was named ECAC and Ivy League Player of the Year and ECAC Goaltender of the Year. McKee set Cornell records for shutouts (10) and save percentage (.947) while going 27-5-3 with a 1.24 goals against average for the season.
