Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - The Quad City Mallards have signed forward Sebastian Geoffrion to a standard player contract, the Mallards announced today.

Geoffrion, 27, has not yet played this season after also sitting out last year. In 2014-15, Geoffrion recorded three assists in 16 games with the Missouri Mavericks and also played in one game for the Gwinnett Gladiators.

Geoffrion began his professional career with the Central Hockey League's Arizona Sundogs late in the 2012-13 campaign. He scored four goals and added two assists in nine games immediately after completing his college career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The following year, in his first full pro season, Geoffrion scored five times and picked up nine assists for 14 points while collecting 168 penalty minutes in 55 games with Arizona.

Geoffrion produced eight goals and notched nine assists for 17 points in 106 games over four seasons at UAH. As a freshman in 2009-10, Geoffrion helped the Chargers to the College Hockey America conference tournament title and the second NCAA tournament berth in school history.

Geoffrion is a fourth-generation professional hockey player. His brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather all played for the Montreal Canadiens. In fact, Sebastian's grandfather- Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion- and great grandfather- Howie Morenz- were both Hockey Hall of Famers and earlier this month were named among the 100 greatest players in the history of the National Hockey League. Sebastian's father, Danny Geoffrion, played under then-coach Bernie Geoffrion for the Canadians in 1979-80. Sebastian's brother, Blake Geoffrion, played for the Canadiens in 2011-12 before he was forced to retire after suffering a head injury.

The Mallards return to action at home tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel and tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Fort Wayne Komets. Tonight and tomorrow will also see former Mallards return to the iWireless Center for alumni weekend, featuring a tribute to former team president Howard Cornfield tonight and an alumni game and twentieth season Genesis jersey auction tomorrow.

Cornfield, who led the Mallards to unprecedented success between 1996 and 2005, will be honored before the current Mallards play the Fuel tomorrow night. Returning Mallards will be introduced before tonight's game and will meet fans and sign autographs during that contest before joining fans for a postgame event in the iWireless Center conference center. Mallards legends will hit the ice themselves for the alumni game tomorrow afternoon at 4:30. The 2017 Mallards will wear special edition twentieth season mash-up jerseys when they face the Komets tomorrow evening. Those jerseys will go up for bid in a live auction to benefit the Genesis Health Services Foundation immediately following that game. Tickets for tomorrow night's Mallards-Komets clash will also be good for the alumni game.
