Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 4, 2012) - Obi Aduba broke a 3-3 tie with 2:42 remaining and the host Quad City Mallards went on to defeat the Bloomington Blaze 5-3 Sunday.
Aduba blasted the game winner home from the left wing circle to give the Mallards their second lead of the third period. With just 37 seconds left on the clock Patrik Levesque's empty net goal clinched the victory.
The Mallards were forced to rally for a total of four third period goals after entering the final frame down 2-1. Matt Duffy knotted the score at two from the left wing circle one second after the end of a Quad City power play at 5:35 of the third. At 9:05, Mickey Lang walked down the slot alone to give the Mallards their first lead of the night. That 4-3 advantage lasted just one minute and seven seconds before Sebastien Trudeau's rising backhander deadlocked the game again at 10:12 but, in the end, only served to set the stage for Aduba's dramatic strike just over seven minutes later.
The Mallards were forced to battle from behind not just in the third period but throughout much of the evening. Bloomington was on the power play when Jesse Dudas scored the game's opening goal from the high slot at 17:32 of the first period. The Mallards responded with a tying when Lang pounced on a rebound at 3:06 of the second period. Tyler Gron scored the Blaze's second power play goal from close range at 14:47 of the second to give the Bloomington the lead it would carry into- but let slip- in the third period.
The Mallards return to action on home ice Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Allen Americans. Tickets for Friday's night's game- as well as seats for all remaining Mallards regular season home games- are now available.
