
Mallards' Palmer, Pearson Bound for Peoria AHL Camp

MOLINE, Ill. (September 24, 2010) - The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced that the Mallards' Ryan Palmer and Zach Pearson will take part in the training camp of the American Hockey League 's Peoria Rivermen beginning Monday in Peoria.
"This is a great opportunity for two players who have worked tirelessly at the AA level to gain this chance," said Mallards Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Frank Anzalone. "The Mallards wish them well."
Palmer, a 27-year old defenseman, collected 11 assists in 62 games after being acquired by the Mallards in a trade with the Muskegon Lumberjacks last November. Between Quad City and Muskegon, the Groton, Massachusetts, native totaled one goal and 13 points in 75 games last year.
Palmer, now entering his fifth pro season, spent his first three years in the CHL. The 6' 3", 215-pound Palmer skated for the Odessa Jackalopes for two plus seasons after also playing for the Colorado Eagles and Laredo Bucks as a rookie. In his most recent CHL campaign- 2008-09- Palmer scored one goal and recorded nine points in 42 games with the Jackalopes. Over 240 career games he has registered five goals and 46 points.
Before turning pro Palmer played college hockey at the University of Connecticut for two seasons. He produced five goals and 14 points in 63 career games as a Husky.
Right wing Pearson, 26, signed with the Mallards last month after scoring 19 goals and totaling 48 points in 76 International Hockey League games with the Bloomington PrairieThunder last season. The White Lake, Michigan, native scored three goals and picked up four assists in 13 games against the Mallards last year.
The upcoming campaign will be Pearson's fourth professional season. In 2007-08 he split his rookie year between the IHL's Muskegon Fury and the CHL's Mississippi RiverKings. The following season saw him skate for both the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and the Flint Generals of the IHL. The 5' 10", 185-pound Pearson has scored 41 times and recorded 104 points in 186 career games.
Pearson turned pro after completing his collegiate career at Ferris State in the spring of 2007. In all Pearson notched 24 goals and 81 points in 148 games over four years as a Bulldog. He also played one season in the junior ranks- 2002-03- with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League.
The Mallards will open their first CHL regular season on home ice Saturday, October 16, at 7:05 p.m. against Odessa.
