Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Gary Steffes, Michel Beausoleil and Ben Gordon provided a goal and an assist apiece as the Tulsa Oilers defeated the Quad City Mallards 4-1 Saturday night and in so doing spoiled the Mallards' home opener.

The Oilers took the lead for good while on the power play just 5:58 into the first period when Beausoleil pounced on a loose in the slot to snap a scoreless tie. Steffes extended the Tulsa lead by scoring what proved to be the game winning goal with a backhander from the slot at 13:58 of the first.

Shayne Toporowski used a nifty move on the doorstep to cut the Oiler advantage to 2-1 at 2:33 of the second period, but the Oilers would soon reestablish the two-goal gap when Ryan Menei scored from the left wing circle at the 8:39 mark of the second.

After Tulsa goaltender Ian Keserich- who finished with 27 saves- turned aside a dozen Mallard shots in the third period, Gordon's empty net goal wrapped up the Oiler win with just over two minutes left in the game.
