Mallards Battle Past Bloomington 4-3

MOLINE, Ill. (March 7, 2010) - Juris Stals scored the game winning power play goal at 9:08 of the third period, Chris Lipsett assisted on every Quad City goal, Tyler Kindle assisted on each of three Mallard power play goals and Jerad Kaufmann made 34 saves as the host Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, defeated the Bloomington PrairieThunder 4-3 Sunday to pull within three points of Bloomington in the race for fourth place and the final IHL playoff spot.

Stals tipped in Kindle's wrist shot to give the Mallards their third lead of night. Stals's heroics were required after the PrairieThunder had tied the score at three when Matthew Spiller scored his second goal of the game and Bloomington's third power play goal of the contest from the blue line just over a minute into the third period.

The Mallards twice took the lead while on the power play in the second period. Quad City was up two men when Brandon Marino roofed the puck from the edge of the crease at 5:09 of the second to make it 2-1. Exactly six minutes later the PrairieThunder was on the man advantage when Jason Lepine swept the puck home from the right wing circle. Terry Harrison put the Mallards back on top 3-2 by redirecting a Kindle shot into the back of the net at 16:39.

It was the PrairieThunder who had first jumped in front 4:26 into the game on Spiller's blast from the top of the left wing circle. The Mallards evened it up just over two minutes later when Matt Cook scored from the doorstep and would never trail again.

The Mallards visit Musekgon Wedensday night before returing home to take on the Lumberjacks Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. 1,000 Mike Zbriger bobbleheads will be given away to fans attending that game.
