Maldonado Earns Player Of The Week Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Sand Gnats outfielder Brahiam Maldonado has been named the South Atlantic League Offensive Player of the Week for the week of July 2-July 8.
For the week, Maldonado hit .500 (14-for-28) with seven extra-base hits, six RBI and four stolen bases. During that stretch he raised his overall batting average from .279 to .306. Maldonado now leads the team with nine home runs. Twice during the week he fell just one hit shy of the cycle. Since the all-star break on June 18, Maldonado is hitting .411 with six homers and 17 RBI in 18 games.
The 21-year-old outfielder is in his third season of professional baseball. A native of Puerto Rico, he was selected by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the 2004 amateur draft.
