New York Lizards News Release

Uniondale, NY (March 6, 2007) - Players who missed entering the Major League Lacrosse player pool this fall still have a shot of playing with the pros. This second chance arrived when the MLL announced that it will reopen its player pool. The MLL player pool, which had been closed prior to the league's supplemental draft, is accepting player registrations through April 13. Each new registrant is eligible for team tryouts or to be picked up by a team directly from the player pool.

The MLL rules committee reopened the pool in response to demand from teams who wanted to invite a greater number of local applicants for upcoming open tryouts.

"The response to the open tryout has been tremendous," said Long Island Lizards General Manager Tim Kelly, whose team will hold an open tryout March 31 in Uniondale, New York. "With the reopening of the player pool the amount of talent that we will be able to view at the tryout has increased ten fold."

Long Island, San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles and Chicago are each conducting open tryouts this spring. The teams have reserved a predetermined number of slots on their respective training camp rosters for the top performers in the open tryouts.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime if you are a lacrosse player," said Kelly. "Anyone who wants to come down has a shot to be invited to a professional sports teams training camp. This is the chance to live out your dream."
