Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
LEWISTON, ME - Jeremy Gouchie's hat trick lifted the Montreal Junior to a 7-3 victory over the Lewiston MAINEiacs Sunday evening at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
Lewiston raced to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Pierre-Olivier Morin and Matthew Bissonnette. However, Montreal scored three unanswered, including a shorthanded goal by Chris Thorne early in the second period.
The MAINEiacs tied the game at three apiece at 4:21 of the third, when Michael Chaput scored off of a rebound past Montreal goaltender Jean-Francois Berube. David Stich scored on the power play nearly four minutes later, and Jeremy Gouchie scored his second goal of the game at 14:20, giving the Junior a 5-3 lead.
In the final five minutes, Montreal's David Stich was handed a five-minute major penalty for checking from behind putting the MAINEiacs on the power play. Moments later Montreal was called for too many men on the ice, giving Lewiston a two-man advantage, which became a three-man advantage, as the MAINEiacs pulled goaltender Adrien Lemay. However, the MAINEiacs were unable to score, and Montreal scored twice into the empty net to seal the 7-3 win.
Montreal scored three shorthanded goals in the contest. The MAINEiacs were unable to clinch a playoff spot today, as Baie-Comeau lost to Rimouski by a 3-1 score. Lewiston still holds a four point edge over Baie-Comeau for the final playoff spot heading into the final week of the regular season.
Lewiston plays host to Drummondville on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Colisee box office, or by dialing (207) 783-2009.
