Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs put together a gritty effort tonight and finally found a way to put some pucks in the net with a 5-2 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
Special teams played a factor again tonight, but it was the MAINEiac penalty kill unit that actually put points up on the board tonight with 2 short-handed goals, abeit one with the empty. In the first period, Giliati scored his first of the post season on a great feed from Micheal Ward. Any momemtum was quickly stifled as Cape Breton responded less than 2 minutes later as Joey Haddad scored his 4th.
In the second, Lewiston jumped out to a 3-1 lead with goals by Jakub Bundil and Marc Bourgeois. The MAINEiacs extended the lead to 4-1 in third as Matt Bourdeau scored his 2nd of the playoffs. Lewiston found itself in penalty trouble again at the tail end of the third and as Cape Breton played 6 on 3 with the goalie pulled, they managed their second power play goal of the game, but that would be as close as they come tonight.
Lewiston heads back up to northern Nova Scotia for games 6 and 7 of this first round series scheduled for Monday and Tuesday night.
Games will be broadcast live on 1470 ESPN or on the web with the Telus Webcast accessed from the MAINEiacs homepage.
