Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Nothing seems to be able to get in the way of the Lewiston MAINEiacs these days, and the Val-d'Or Foreurs found that out first hand this weekend. On Saturday night, the MAINEiacs finished a weekend sweep of the Foreurs with a 4-1 win in front of a season-high 2,325 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The victory gives Lewiston a six-game winning streak.

For the second night in a row, the MAINEiacs netted the first goal within the first five minutes of the contest. Jess Tanguy crossed the blueline, made a slick move in the slot, and backhanded a shot through Jacob Gervais-Chouinard's legs.

Later in the period, Lewiston faced quite the challenge, as Alex Zafiris was given a major penalty for checking from behind, giving Val-d'Or a five-minute power play. The Foreurs got one goal on the man advantage, as Jean-Francois Leblanc tipped Shawn Morton-Boutin's shot in from the point.

In the second period, the MAINEiacs retook the lead. Michael Chaput and Pierre-Olivier Morin battled for a loose puck in the slot, with Morin ultimately finding the twine with a shot off of the post. Etienne Brodeur picked up the other assist on Morin's tally, giving him points in six straight games.

Just over six minutes into the third, a brotherly connection hooked up to put Lewiston up by a pair. Antoine Houde-Caron, Dillon Fournier, and Stefan Fournier entered the offensive zone on a 3-on-1 break. The play finished with Stefan finding Dillon for his second goal of the season. Etienne Brodeur matched a career-high with his 18th tally of the season, icing a 4-1 win with 4:39 left to go.

Nicholas Champion picked up his league-leading 13th win of the season, making 19 saves on 20 shots. Jacob Gervais-Chouinard suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 22 shots.

The MAINEiacs will be off until next Saturday at 7:00, when they begin a two-game weekend series at home against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.
