Danville Dans News Release
DANVILLE, IL - During spring training, Mikie Mahtook was on the Tampa Bay Rays 40-man roster. Today, he moves up a notch - a big notch - by becoming a member of the Rays active roster for his first MLB appearance. He was recalled from Triple-A Durham after they placed John Jaso on the disabled list Thursday.
Mahtook played on the Dans 2009 team. His time in Danville didn't start until July that year, because he was helping lead his LSU Tigers to the College World Series National Championship. As a sophomore-to-be, Mahtook was named the Prospect League's Pro Player Prospect of the Year in the first year of the league.
The LSU standout was drafted by the Rays in the first round of the 2011 draft. Last year in a full Triple-A season at Durham, Mahtook batted .292 with 33 doubles, 6 triples, 12 home runs and 18 stolen bases.
"We're very excited to see another Dan make it to the majors," said Dans managing partner Jeanie Cooke. "This continues our proud heritage of player development with the Dans."
The Danville Dans will begin their 28th season of wooden bat summer college baseball at home on May 27. They're a founding member of the Prospect League, one of the premier summer college leagues.
