Magician's Sweep Second Weekend in a Row

November 21, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Minnesota Magicians News Release

Just seven days ago, the Minnesota Magicians, traveled all the way home from Alaska. They only had four practices to prepare for one of their hardest competitors - the Janesville Jets.

The long flight and limited practice time didn't interfere with the Magicians' performance on the ice this past weekend. The team swept the Jets with back-to-back wins.

They secured their first win on Friday in a shootout with a final score of 3-2 and again on Saturday with a shutout win, 2-0. Lake Superior State University commit and goaltender, Jack Robbel, competed in Saturday's entire game with 30 total saves.

Rookie players Chris Konin and Jake Seitz scored in the shootout on Friday, starting the Magicians off with a successful weekend. Konin was the leading goalscorer of the weekend with four points.

Joey Pavey of Sarnia, Ontario, and Seitz each scored at Saturday night's game.

Head Coach A.J. Bucchino attributed the Magician's success on the ice to their consistent competitive play.

Robbel is currently placed as the number one top goalie in the league with a 1.48 goals against average and a 0.954 save percentage, according the NAHL.

Although Konin led the team and received the title, "Star of the Game," for both nights, veteran player Cameron Buhl is fifth place in the league for top scorers. Buhl currently has 25 points for this season, with 1.14 points per game. He had three points during the weekend, and is now leading the team in all-time points.

The Magicians are still ranked first place in the Midwest Division, holding a 17-5 record, with 34 points, and the Jets trailing right behind with 25. The Jets hold a 11-8 record.

The Magicians' next competitor is the Minnesota Wilderness of the central division, who they played earlier in the season. The teams battled back-to-back games, ending with a 1-1 record.
