Magee returns for unfinished business

Minnesota Thunder News Release

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Tuesday, April 6, 2004) – Minnesota Thunder's all-time leading goal scorer Amos Magee has signed with the team for his 14th year, returning for his second season as player/assistant coach.

"I had planned on winning the A-league championship and retiring. With our loss to Charleston in the 2003 final, I decided to reconsider," said Magee. "When the Thunder moved to St. Paul, six blocks from where I grew up and eight blocks from my home, there was no question. I'm excited to be a part of the Thunder's move to Griffin Stadium and anxious to win another championship."

Magee, the longest active member of the team, has tallied 64 goals and 39 assists in over 180 games in his professional career. He played on the 1993 US Maccabiah team, winning the bronze medal. Magee played seven games with the Tampa Bay Mutiny of Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2000, and was on-loan to the Chicago Fire of MLS in 2002.

In Magee's 14 years, he has become a leader not only on the team but in the community. As in years past, he will be coaching at the Thunder camps throughout this summer. He is also the head coach at his former high school, St. Paul Academy, and holds the USSF ‘A' license, the country's highest coaching license

Magee has connected with fans through the column he writes on the Thunder website by revealing things about himself from life experiences and fears to coaching the US youth team in the 2003-04 Pan American Maccabi Games.
