
Maddox, Warner Join NBC Broadcast Team

NEW YORK - April 24, 2003 - The Arena Football League on NBC will feature star NFL quarterbacks and AFL alumni Kurt Warner and Tommy Maddox serving as guest analysts this Sunday, April 27 at 3 p.m. ET. Warner, the St. Louis Rams quarterback and two-time NFL MVP who played in the AFL from 1995-97, will join Mike Breen (play-by-play) and Ray Bentley (analyst) in the broadcast booth during the third quarter of the Tampa Bay at New York game.
Additionally, Maddox, who quarterbacked the New Jersey AFL franchise in 2000 and led the Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs this past season, will stop by the AFL on NBC studio show. The AFL on NBC Studio Show, a TelePrompTer-free zone, hosted by Al Trautwig with analysts Michael Irvin and Glenn Parker, will feature a discussion with Maddox on his AFL playing days and the impact it had on his NFL career. Also, the show will include a preview of the regional match-ups and reacts to the NFL Draft.

AFL on NBC regional coverage Sunday will be highlighted by Los Angeles (9-3) at Dallas (7-5) at 3 p.m. ET. Tom Hammond (play-by-play), who also will call the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Saturday, Pat Haden (analyst) and Lewis Johnson (reporter) will handle the broadcast. Other regional coverage includes Tampa Bay (9-3) at New York (5-7) featuring Breen (play-by-play), Bentley (analyst) and Dave Burns (reporter) on the broadcast with guest analyst Warner in the third quarter. Eli Gold (play-by-play) and Charles Davis (analyst) will broadcast the Grand Rapids (8-4) at Chicago (5-7) contest.
Penn Relays Features World's Fastest Man Tim Montgomery
NBC Sports will present live coverage of the historic Penn Relays from Franklin Field in Philadelphia this Saturday from 4:30-6 p.m. ET. Hammond and Dan O'Brien, 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist in the decathlon, will call the races with Lewis Johnson, Carol Lewis and Dwight Stones reporting from the infield.
NBC's live coverage will feature the current 100m world record holder Tim Montgomery and many of the world's top sprinters in a USA vs. The World format.
On April 29, 1961, legendary broadcaster Jim McKay first brought ABC's Wide World of Sports on the air from the Penn Relays at Franklin Field. The Penn Relays, first held in 1895, were last broadcast on network television in 1998 by CBS.
