Greeneville Astros News Release
Greeneville, TN - Greeneville Astros' first baseman Connor MacDonald went three-for-four with two doubles and a home run, but it would not be enough as the Bristol Pirates (15-15) defeated the Astros (16-15) on Sunday, 6-2.
In the second inning, MacDonald doubled on a line drive to left field to lead off the inning but would be left stranded. However, he doubled again in the fourth and scored on a Troy Sieber single. Then, in the eighth, the Australian crushed a solo homer over the right field wall to conclude his strong outing.
Astros' starter Jorge Alcala, in his debut for Greeneville, held the Pirates hitless with one strikeout in his one shutout inning. However, the Pirates took the initial lead in the game in the second inning, a lead they would never relinquish. With two outs, the Pirates scored their first run on a bases-loaded walk and added two more on a two-run single by Adrian Valerio.
In the fifth, the Pirates extended their lead on a Victor Fernandez sacrifice fly. Then, in the eighth, they concluded the scoring with a Yoel Gonzalez two-run single.
Matt Eckelman (4-0) earned the win for Bristol after allowing one run on four hits over five innings. Adam Oller went the final four innings and gave up one run on three hits, but picked up the save.
The Astros will begin a three-game series against the Princeton Rays on Monday at Pioneer Park. Carlos Sanabria will be starting on the mound for the Astros.
