Toronto Lynx News Release

Date: Saturday, May 3rd, 2003 Venue: Bethel Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Attendance: 1 567 Kick off Time: 7:35 PM Final Score: Toronto 2 Pittsburgh 0 Match Summary: The Toronto Lynx opened the 2003 A-League season with a bang, beating the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-0 in their own backyard. The Riverhounds, who entered the game on a roll after thrashing Charlotte 5-0 and drawing with Atlanta 2-2 last weekend, could not muster a goal against a solid Lynx defense and an outstanding effort from veteran Lynx netminder, Theo Zagar. Argentinean newcomer, Sebastian Barclay paid immediate dividends, scoring on a laser shot that beat Pittsburgh goalkeeper, Randy Dedini, only 16 minutes into his A-League debut. Former Riverhound, Ali Ngon, assisted on the goal in his triumphant return to Pittsburgh. In the second half, the Riverhounds began to control the play, however, they were unable to beat Zagar, who had six saves on the night. The Lynx secured the victory and a valuable 3 points on the road when Elvis Thomas slipped a quick shot past the hands of Dedini in stoppage time. The Lynx now return to Toronto for a two game homestand where they will put their perfect record on the line against the Montreal Impact on Saturday, May 10th at 4:00 pm and the expansion Syracuse Salty Dogs in a special matinee 12:00pm kickoff on Wednesday, May 14th at Centennial Park Stadium in Etobicoke.
