Lynx Hear the Sound in Seattle

May 21, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Seattle Sounders News Release

The Toronto Lynx picked up their fourth consecutive 2-0 loss away to Seattle this evening. Toronto, which entered tonight's match with a record of 0-3-0, hoped to end the goal scoring drought that had plagued them in their last three matches.

Toronto fell behind three minutes into the first half when Seattle striker Jamal Sutton picked up a loose ball inside Toronto's area. He shuffled to the left and slotted the ball past Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar to make it 1-0 for the home side.

Seattle continued to press ahead throughout the first half, sending 8 shots in Zagar's direction. Toronto stood firm amidst the pressure and it was 1-0 to Seattle at the half.

The second half started with Lynx Head Coach Duncan Wilde replacing Joe Mattachione with Gordon Chin in midfield and striker Jeremy Sheppard with Brazilian Osni Neto. Chin blocked a goal bound strike from Seattle striker Roger Levesque in the 70th minute to keep Toronto's deficit at one goal.

Second half substitute striker Craig Tomlinson, who came on for first half goal scorer Sutton, made it 2-0 for Seattle in the 79th minute. He smashed the ball into an empty goal after Cam Weaver's pass found him unmarked at the far post. It was 2-0 to Seattle at the final whistle.

Tonight's loss was Toronto's fourth consecutive 2-0 loss this season, leaving Toronto in 12th place in the USL First Division with a record of 0-4-0.

Toronto hopes to end its losing streak tomorrow night when it takes on the Portland Timbers at PGE Park at 9:00 PM EST.

Notes: Toronto was without suspended striker Matt Palleschi who was serving the first match of a two game suspension. Toronto's defence was bolstered by the return of Canadian international Tony Menezes who sat out the match against Rochester due to injury. Newly acquired Trinidadian striker Kevin Jeffrey as well as former Trinidad and Tobago international and 2005 Lynx goalkeeper Richard Goddard did not feature in tonight's match.
