Lynx End Silverbacks' Playoff Hopes

Toronto Lynx News Release
With nothing but pride to play for in the final weekend of the 2004 A-League regular season, the Toronto Lynx traveled to Atlanta tonight to take on the Silverbacks at DeKalb Memorial Stadium. With a playoff spot still a possibility for the Silverbacks, the Lynx were looking to play the spoiler and end Atlanta's Cinderella season. Trailing the Syracuse Salty Dogs by 3 points for the final playoff spot, the Silverbacks had everything to play for, as a win would keep their playoff hopes alive, depending on the result of the Syracuse versus Virginia Beach match later tonight. The Silverbacks came out quickly and played with urgency in the first half, but the Lynx played stingy defense and 'keeper, Bryheem Hancock was not to be beaten by his former team. Unfortunately, the Lynx could not solve Atlanta 'keeper, Joe Barton, at the other end of the pitch either and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. Despite the lack of goals, the match was not missing excitement or tension as both teams struck crossbars and post several times during the match. The result ends Altanta's playoff hopes and drops their record to 14-11-2 on the season, a dramatic turnaround from their 4-17-7 record last season. The Lynx move to 10-15-2 on this year and will conclude their 2004 season tomorrow night in Charleston with a 6:00pm kickoff against the defending A-League champion Battery.
