Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced today that Southern Maryland Blue Crabs General Manager Keith Lupton has been named the league's General Manager of the Year for 2011. The 2011 season marked Lupton's first season with the ball club. The honor was the team's second of the postseason, as pitcher Jim Ed Warden was selected to the 2011 All-Star Team at the conclusion of the season.
"I'm honored to receive the award of Atlantic League General Manager of the year. It was my first season in Southern Maryland and there were a lot of people behind the scenes helping me. I would not have been able to do it without the help of my staff; I have to commend them," Lupton said.
Gaining a reputation as being the best franchise starter in the industry, Lupton has also earned Executive of the Year honors in the Carolina League, Eastern League and South Atlantic League.
A contributing factor to Lupton being named the Atlantic League General Manager of the Year is Lupton's help guiding the Blue Crabs to their third consecutive playoff run under first year manager Patrick Osborn's reign. "We battled our way through the whole season and did not quit until the very last out of the very last game. Patrick was a great manager, and I am more than grateful for the chance to help lead him through his first season as a manager in the Atlantic League, "Lupton said.
About enjoying the summer in Southern Maryland, Lupton added, "It has been an honor for me to be part of Crustacean Nation this summer and the most satisfying thing for me to see is excited fans young and old enter the ballpark each night, and then leave a few hours later following a great game, with a big smile. That is what Blue Crabs baseball is all about."
The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs are a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, and play at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland. The franchise is entering its fifth season in the spring of 2012, coming off the team's third playoff appearance in 2011.
