Port Huron Icehawks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks saw their season come to close on Saturday with a 5-2 loss versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks in Game Six at L.C. Walker Arena. The Lumberjacks won the first round playoff series 4-2 and will advance to the Turner Cup Finals versus the Fort Wayne Komets.

The Icehawks came out strong, outshooting their opponent 16-6 in the opening frame, but it was Muskegon who found themselves with an early lead thanks to a shorthanded goal by Billy Collins at 13:39. The Icehawks tied the contest with a Steve Rymsha goal just 43 seconds into the second frame. Ian Turner and Bryan Smolinski assisted.

The Lumberjacks regained the lead less than seven minutes later with a Luke Stauffacher tally, and went on to increase their advantage with three goals in the final stanza. Muskegon made it a 3-1 game with a Robin Bouchard goal at 11:52 in the third period and cemented the win when Stauffacher netted his second of the night with just under three minutes left to play.

The Icehawks pulled goalie Ryan Mior for an extra attacker in the final minutes of the game, and were rewarded with a Tab Lardner goal at 18:22, but it was too little too late. Muskegon's Steven Later put the puck into an empty net just under a minute later to boost the final score to 5-2.

The Icehawks outshot the Lumberjacks 42-27 in the loss. Lumberjacks goalie Kevin Armstrong made 40 saves for his third win in four playoff starts. Mior made 22 saves. Both teams were scoreless on the power play despite four opportunities each.

The Icehawks will hold a Fan Appreciation Night on Sunday, April 26 at Military Street Music Café. The players will serve as guest bartenders. The event begins at 5 p.m. For more information, call the Icehawks office at 810-966-3800 or visit www.porthuronicehawks.com.
