Port Huron Icehawks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks attempted a third period comeback on Wednesday, but could not dig out of an early hole and fell 3-2 versus the Muskegon Lumberjacks at L.C. Walker Arena. With the win, the Lumberjacks take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven playoff series.
Muskegon made it a 1-0 game with a Robin Bouchard goal at 9:31 in the first period and increased their advantage with goals from Todd Robinson midway through both the second and third periods. Robinson's first goal came at the 9:10 mark in the second frame, while the second came on the power play at 8:33 in the third.
The Icehawks struggled in the second period, managing just four shots on goal. They regained steam in the third, however, outshooting the Lumberjacks 22-5 in an attempt to claw back into the game. Their efforts resulted in a pair of goals. Jason Chafe put his team on the board at 13:01 and Derek Patrosso fired a shot past goalie Kevin Armstrong at 15:54 to bring the Icehawks within one. Port Huron continued to create scoring chances as the game wound down, but failed to come up with the game tying goal.
The Icehawks outshot the Lumberjacks 35-26 overall. Armstrong stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced for his second straight playoff win. Icehawks goalie Ryan Mior made 23 saves. Port Huron was scoreless on the power play despite six opportunities, while Muskegon was 1-6 with the man advantage.
The Icehawks will fight to stay alive on Friday when the International Hockey League Turner Cup Playoff Series shifts back to Port Huron for Game Five at 7:30 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a free team poster.
If necessary, Game Six will be Saturday, April 25 in Muskegon and Game Seven will be played on Tuesday, April 28 in Port Huron.
