Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan (February 25th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced a trade in which the organization has acquired Forward Ryan Siroky from the expansion Bloomington Thunder in exchange for Forward Steven Merl, a third round 2015 Phase II Draft pick, and a player to be named later. Siroky is expected to make his Lumberjacks debut this weekend when the team hosts the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for pair of contests on Friday and Saturday.
Siroky, the Manhattan Beach, California native, arrives to Muskegon after skating in 44 games this season with the Thunder recording 10 goals and 16 assists to go with a plus-seven rating. During his three-year USHL career, Siroky has registered 35 goals and 28 assists to go with a plus-one rating in 173 games combined between Green Bay and Bloomington.
Prior to arriving in the USHL, Siroky spent the 2010-11 season with the Los Angeles Selects HC Midget Minor team tallying 14 goals and 20 assists in 35 games played followed by appearing in 38 games during the 2011-12 campaign for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings Midget Minor squad accumulating 21 goals and 25 assists. The future Miami University RedHawk was selected by the Green Bay Gamblers in the second round (25th overall) during the 2011 USHL Futures Draft.
Merl, the Coral Springs, Florida native, heads to Bloomington after coming to the Lumberjacks in a trade from the Madison Capitols back in mid-September totaling three goals and four assists to go with a plus-two rating in 33 games. The forward is currently in his first USHL season after being picked by the Capitols in the third round (45th overall) during the 2014 USHL Phase II Draft.
The third round Phase II pick included in the deal is returned to Bloomington after Muskegon obtained the pick from the Thunder last May before the 2014 USHL Draft in the Matt Mendelson trade.
