
Lumberjacks Fall in Plymouth 10-1 to USA NTDP U18s

PLYMOUTH - For the final time of the season the Muskegon Lumberjacks and USA Hockey NTDP faced off against each other on Tuesday evening. The Jacks took on the Under-18 team looking for their third straight win, but came up empty handed falling 10-1.
With the loss Muskegon falls to 24-26-3-0 this season with 9 games remaining in the regular season. The NTDP improves to 33-17-1-2 and moves one game closer to clinching a spot in the Clark Cup Playoffs.
The NTDP opened the scoring in the first period on the back of a power play goal at the 9:34 mark. Cole Hutson carried the puck through the near side circle towards the corner and dropped it off for Oliver Moore. The future Minnesota Golden Gopher found Cole Eiserman on the far side with a perfect pass to one-time past Raythan Robbins. The goal was Eiserman's first of the game, 24th of the season.
Just over a minute later at 10:54 the NTDP doubled up and made it 2-0. Becket Hendrickson provided a screen in front of Robbins and got a piece of a shot fired by Drew Fortescue to redirect it to the back of the net. Hutson picked up the secondary assist for his second point of the game.
The Jacks got one back four minutes later with 5:41 remaining in the period. Ty Henricks got a pass on the near side of the ice and fired a shot onto Trey Augustine that was turned aside, but with all of the bodies in front lost sight of the puck. Ethan Whitcomb found the puck sitting behind Augustine in the crease and banged it home for his third goal in as many games. It was his 21st total goal.
Two more goals came for the NTDP before the end of the period to carry a 4-1 lead into the first intermission. First, only 20 seconds after the Lumberjacks goal Eiserman scored his second of the game while finishing a rebound in the slot. Will Smith on the action with a power play goal with 1:33 left in the period. Smith carried the puck down the far side and pulled a toe drag around the Jacks defenseman before going back bar down.
The 18s scored four more goals in the second period to extend their lead to 8-1. Ryan Fine struck on the power play 2:38 into the frame for his 5th goal of the season. Two goals in the middle of the period came at 6:24 and 7:57. First, Alex Weiermair finished a play started by Smith and Perreult, then on the power play Eiserman scored his third of the game. Smith added a goal of his own with 1:08 remaining in the period by finishing a breakaway opportunity.
Two more goals came for the NTDP in the third period. Hendrickson scored his second of the game two minutes into the third period to make it 9-1, then with 12 seconds left Danny Nelson scored for the eventual final score of 10-1.
Robbins (8-14-1) lasted two periods stopping 33 of the 41 shots against. Sebastian Gatto played the third period in the crease for Muskegon and turned aside 9 of the 11 shots he faced. Augustine (10-0-0-2) played the first half of the game for the NTDP allowing one goal on 7 shots before Hampton Slukynsky stopped all 21 shots taken by the Lumberjacks.
