Lumberjacks Acquire Draft Pick for Goaltender Williams
October 20, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI - The Muskegon Lumberjacks have acquired a conditional draft pick from the Waterloo Black Hawks in exchange for goaltender Jonathan Williams.
The draft pick is a sixth-round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase II draft, and becomes a fifth-rounder if Williams plays one game in Waterloo this season.
Williams played in 28 games in 2019-20 for Muskegon, compiling an 12-8-4 record to go with a 3.03 GAA and .898 SV%. In two preseason games so far this year, Williams posted a 4.29 GAA, .886 SV%, and 0-0-0 record.
"It was an extremely tough decision to trade Jonathan," said President of Hockey Operations Steve Lowe. "But in the dispersal draft, we were able to select Christian Stoever, a proven number one goalie in the USHL. Having Christian on our team allowed us to move Jonathan, because he wanted a shot at being a number one goaltender, and he deserves that opportunity.
"We feel like Jan Skorpik is emerging as a strong USHL goaltender who is very capable of winning games as well. We are excited to move forward with the current tandem we have in net and wish Jon the very best in Waterloo."
Muskegon's next preseason games are against Youngstown this Friday and Saturday at Mercy Health Arena. The games are not open to fans, but will be broadcast on the Lumberjacks Broadcast Network. The team's free Mixlr can be found at http://mixlr.com/muskegon-lumberjacks/ (AUDIO) and video may be streamed on available devices through HockeyTV at www.hockeytv.com (VIDEO).
