Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts scored early and often as they took down the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-1 before 5,503 fans at Oldsmobile Park Thursday night.

Lansing plated three runs in the third inning after they had already taken the lead in the first on a double-play. Scott Campbell and Chris Emanuele each reached on singles in the third to bring up Jonathan Jaspe, who ripped a double down the right field line to score both runners and make it a 3-0 game. Yuber Rodriguez immediately followed that with an RBI single to center that extended the lead to 4-0.

Wisconsin's only run of the game came in the top half of the fourth when Carlos Peguero doubled home Juan Diaz to cut the lead to 4-1.

However the Lugnuts were able to answer right back in the bottom half of the inning by taking advantage of a wild Wisconsin pitching staff. With the bases loaded, Emanuele, Sean Shoffit, and Jaspe each drew walks that brought home three straight runs to make it a 7-1 game. Jonthan Baksh was able to beat out an infield single later in the frame to push the lead to 8-1 for Lansing.

The run support would be more than enough for Nate Starner (8-7), who picked up his third straight win by tossing six innings and allowing just one run on eight hits. He was also able to fan nine batters in the outing while walking none.

The Lugnuts bullpen was able to do the rest, as Julio Pinto, Ron Lowe, and Edward Rodriguez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Ricky Orta (3-3) took the loss for the Rattlers, allowing eight runs on as many hits while walking six over 3 1/3 innings of work.

Lansing (46-43, 11-9) and Wisconsin (30-57, 8-11) will continue the series on Friday night. Graham Godfrey (4-4, 4.71) will make the start for the Lugnuts, while Steven Richard (4-2, 4.14) will take the bump for the Timber Rattlers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with LAFCU Fireworks to follow the game.
