Louisville's Burke Named USL Defender of the Year

TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League announced today Louisville City FC's Bryan Burke has been voted the 2015 USL Defender of the Year.

Joining expansion Louisville City FC for its inaugural season, Burke played a key role at both ends of the field as he led the USL with 10 assists, and also contributed to a defense that conceded only 35 goals in 28 regular-season games.

The 2015 USL Awards were voted on by team management, a nationwide panel of media representatives from all 24 USL markets and an online fan poll.

A former standout in the USL for Orange County Blues FC and Orlando City SC, Burke arrived in Louisville looking to get back on track after a broken leg suffered in 2013 derailed his upward ascent. In Louisville, Burke was a key figure in the club's immediate success, as he played in all 28 regular-season contests and finished tied with Juan Guzman for most minutes played by an outfield player.

Burke also had a strong late-season run of form to help make Louisville's attack the highest-scoring in the USL with 55 goals in the regular season. The right back had five assists in the final 10 weeks of the regular season as City finished second in the Eastern Conference standings.

The 2015 USL Awards are being announced throughout this week, and continue with the unveiling of the 2015 USL Coach of the Year on Wednesday.
