Los Angeles' Silas Demary named AFL Lineman of the Year

NEW YORK – Los Angeles Avengers OL/DL SILAS DEMARY (6-3, 285, Virginia State) was selected the 2005 Lineman of the Year as voted by the AFL head coaches, fans and Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA). The announcement was made live on ESPNews this afternoon.

The fifth-year veteran, who earned All-Arena First-Team honors last week, broke an 18-year AFL record with 13.5 sacks (Pittsburgh's CRAIG WALLS, 13.0 in 1987) while recording 26.0 total tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The former Trojan added a 17-yard reception on offense.

Other candidates included: Chicago's JOHN MOYER, Dallas' COLSTON WEATHERINGTON, Georgia's JERMAINE SMITH and New Orleans' B.J. COHEN.

The Rookie of the Year will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1, while Coach of the Year honors will be announced Thursday, June 2. Following is the complete list of the Lineman of the Year award winners:
