Los Angeles Lakers Assign Caracter to NBA D-League Affiliate Los Angeles D-Fenders

NEW YORK, Jan. 25, 2012 ? The Los Angeles Lakers today assigned forward Derrick Caracter to the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the Lakers? NBA D-League affiliate. The assignment marks the 27th time an NBA player has been assigned to his NBA D-League affiliate during the 2011-12 season.
Originally selected by the Lakers in the second round (58th overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft, Caracter (6-9, 275) appeared in 41 games for Los Angeles last season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.0 rebound in 5.2 minutes. Caracter has yet to see action as a Laker this season having undergone surgery on Dec. 14 to remove part of a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee, an injury he sustained two days prior to Lakers training camp in December.
Caracter returns to the NBA D-League following two assignments to the Bakersfield Jam during the 2010-11 season. In three regular season games with the Jam, Caracter averaged 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds in 19.7 minutes. He also appeared in two postseason games for Bakersfield, averaging 7.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 21.5 minutes.
