Dream Come True Night with the Danbury Whalers

Saturday, Feburary 18th @7:35 PM

A tribute to Dream Come True of Western CT will be showcased at the Saturday, February 18th Danbury Whalers hockey game vs. the 1000 Islands Privateers at the Danbury Ice Arena. Proceeds will be shared with Dream Come True, a non-profit organization which fulfills dreams for area children afflicted with a debilitating illness.

Danbury Whalers hockey is a family-oriented event, with additional family entertainment scheduled to honor Dream Come True Night at the Whalers. A child who has had his dream fulfilled by Dream Come True will be at the event with his family to talk about the experience. Games, prizes and a silent auction are also planned by Dream Come True volunteers. Information about the Dream Come True organization, including volunteer opportunities for teens and adults, Dream Child referrals and Dream sponsorships will be available at the arena that evening.

Dream Come True of Western CT fulfills dreams for chronically, seriously and terminally ill children between the ages of 4 and 19 in Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven Counties. The volunteer-run organization has granted hundreds of dreams since its founding in 1984. Events like the Night at the Whalers are held each year to provide funding for these dreams, which have included specially-accommodated travel to destinations such as Disney World, meeting famous personalities, entertainment systems and computers. Alex Goupil in the Lineup

Both Games This Weekend

This weekend the Danbury Whalers hockey team will be home on Friday and Saturday. Gametime for both games is 7:35 PM.

Alex Goupil will be in the lineup for both games for the Whalers.

Goupil, one of the most popular players to play in Danbury, began his professional career in 2004 with the Trashers in the United Hockey League. He played two seasons for the Trashers scoring 50 goals in 136 regular season games. Over his six professional seasons (370 games) Goupil's totals are 162 goals, 154 assists, and almost a point a game average for his career.

Last weekend in his return to Danbury, Goupil had a goal and an assist and the Whalers won both games he played in.

Danbury Whalers President / Senior Partner / CFO, Alan Friedman commented, "When we got Alex, we knew he brought a lot to the table. When we actually got him here in the locker room and on the ice - it went way beyond what we ever anticipated. We should have paid a million dollars to get him last year because that is what he's worth."

Big Red - Sweet 16

In two seasons in the Federal Hockey League, the Danbury Whalers have had numerous heroes step up on and off the ice. It is time to recognize one who has stayed under the radar but has been a huge force in the development of this organization.

Sean O'Malley is the career leader in Danbury Whaler games played. Out of 90 games in the Danbury Whalers history, Sean O'Malley has played in 89 of them. Big Red has 31 goals in his career including 8 on the power play and 4 game winners.

While there is no shortage of stars in green, the next time you are looking for a guy to cheer, stand up and give the guy in #16 Green from Cleveland, Ohio a big round of applause.

Wednesday, February 29th Moved Back to Original Time @ 7:35 PM

The Danbury Whalers have announced that their game against the Brooklyn Aviators scheduled for Wednesday, Februrary 29th at 11:45, has been rescheduled and moved back to its original time of 7:35 PM.

Whalers CEO / Managing Partner, Herm Sorcher commented, "We had a good program in place for an afternoon game with the school systems, but there were few aspects that needed more time to put together. At this point it is better to put it back to the original time and go at it next year."
