Longball Powers Captains to 6-1 Win

Lake County Captains News Release


(Bowling Green, KY) - Jorge Martinez hit a three run home run to right field in the fourth inning and Erik Gonzalez hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to help lift the Captains (12-20) over Bowling Green (21-12) by a final of 6-1. Both players connected for their first homeruns of the season. The Captains led 4-0 after the solo shot by Gonzalez in the fifth inning.

Lake County added a pair of runs in the eighth inning. Nellie Rodriguez doubled home Logan Vick and later in the inning Rodriguez scored from third on a throwing error. The score in the middle of the eighth was 6-0 Captains. Vick's on-base streak now stands at 12 games. The Hot Rods scored in the bottom of the eighth to prevent the shutout. Marty Gantt walked and scored on an RBI double by Ryan Dunn. The score was 6-1 headed to the ninth.

RHP Dylan Baker (1-2) started the game for the Captains. Baker earned his first professional win. Dylan pitched six innings and allowed just one hit, one walk and he struck out four. Baker gave way to Felix sterling who pitched a perfect seventh. Louis Head pitched the final two innings, he allowed one hit, one run, and he fanned two.

RHP Eduar Quinonez (2-2) started for Bowling Green. Quinonez took the loss after pitching six innings and allowing four hits and four runs. He walked one and struck out three. He also allowed both homeruns. The bullpen for BG pitched three innings and allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out four.

Lake County will stay in Bowling Green Kentucky on Sunday Afternoon. The Captains will start RHP Luis Dejesus (0-2, 6.30) and he will face RHP Taylor Guerrieri (1-1, 2.45) from the Hot Rods. First pitch is at 3:05 PM.
