January 10, 2007 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
New York Lizards News Release
Uniondale, NY (January 10, 2007) -- The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse today announced their 2007 schedule. The Lizards open the season at home with the rival Boston Cannons coming to Mitchel Field on May 25. The Lizards play six home games and six on the road. Long Island opens training camp the last week in April which will run for three weekends and is open to the media and the public.
"The entire organization is geared up for a championship run in 2007," said Timothy Kelly, Long Island Lizards General Manager. "We think that with the nucleus of players returning from last year and the young talent we brought in this off season a third MLL title is in our future."
The Lizards home schedule features four Saturday contests, one Friday night game and one Thursday night game. The Friday night game is the home opener which will be televised live on ESPN2 starting at 7:00 PM. The June 16th game will be the centerpiece of the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation (LIMLF) Jamboree, which is an all day tournament with teams participating from all over Long Island. The Lizards Thursday night contest will have a family holiday feel as they take on the Rochester Rattlers on July 5 at 7:30 PM. The Lizards close the season at home against the New Jersey Pride on Saturday August 11.
"We are quite excited to kick off our season with two big events. Our first home game against arch rival Boston will be the first regular season game ever televised live (ESPN2). We will be holding some special promotions to highlight this live game for all of our fans in attendance," said Lizard's Team President Dave Kotowski. "For our second home game, we have once again partnered with the LIMLF to host their annual lacrosse jamboree and tournament. Last year was a huge success with close to 60 teams coming in from all over Long Island and Connecticut. Every player and every coach will once again receive a ticket to our 1 pm game against last year's MLL Champion, the Philadelphia Barrage. We are expanding the tournament this year and we will be attracting teams from all over the East Coast and hope to sell out this game," said Kotowski.
The Lizards will play two teams from the Western Conference in 2007. In their first ever meeting the Lizards will fly out to challenge the San Francisco Dragons on June 2, and will host the Denver Outlaws on Saturday July 28.
Season, group and individual game tickets are on sale now. Lizards season tickets start at $80 and individual game tickets start at $16. Each Lizards game is an action packed event for the entire family. For ticket information call 866-LIZARDS-1 or visit www.longislandlizards.com.
