Long Beach Armada News Release

(Pleasanton, CA. January 25, 2006) The Golden Baseball League today announced that the contract of Long Beach Armada Pitcher Adam Pettyjohn has been sold to the Seattle Mariners. He has spent the off-season working out for several big league clubs, and will report to spring training with the Mariners in Peoria, Arizona.

"Adam had a great year for us and will do very well with the Mariners," said Long Beach Armada Manager Darrell Evans. "He's on track to be back in the big leagues soon and is a good example of the fine quality of pitching in the GBL."

Pettyjohn, 28, was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 2nd round in 1998 out of Fresno State University in California. He quickly advanced through the Tigers' farm system and made his major league debut after four years in the organization. He started nine games and appeared in a total of 16 for Detroit in 2001. Pettyjohn had been dealing with a serious illness and had to undergo abdominal surgery in 2002. After rehabilitation, he retuned late in the 2003 season. He was later released by the Tigers after appearing in 19 double-A games. He then signed with San Francisco in 2004, and was later sold to Oakland. He finished the season in Triple-A Sacramento and was released after the season. Pettyjohn signed with the Long Beach Armada for the 2005 season. There he worked with former Detroit Tigers World Series Champions Darrell Evans ('84) as Manager and Jon Warden ('68) as pitching coach. He had a chance to pitch regularly and quickly regained his form.

Pettyjohn was GBL Pitcher of the Month for June, twice was selected as GBL Pitcher of the Week, won a Gold Glove for his fielding, and was named to the GBL All-Star team as he led the Armada into the playoffs. Starting sixteen games during the regular season, Pettyjohn had a record of 10-2 with an E.R.A of 3.92 while striking out 73 batters and only walking 23 in 110 innings pitched.

"The GBL has become a fast track for quality pitchers to get back into major league organizations," said GBL Commissioner Kevin Outcalt. "Adam is the fourth GBL pitcher to be signed in the last four weeks."

The 2006 season for the Long Beach Armada opens at home on June 12th versus the Chico Outlaws. Tickets, merchandise, and sponsor opportunities are all still available at www.longbeacharmada.com.
