April 9, 2016 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Topeka Pilots News Release
In the final game before the playoffs, it was more than just a tuneup for players involved as these two rivals battled it out for 60 minutes with Lone Star squeezing out a 2-1 win.
In the opening period, Lone Star made sure there was no repeat of the previous night's offensive outburst. The Brahmas took a 1-0 lead on a Martin Mellberg goal, punched between the pads of Tyler Johnson at 6:09. Topeka outshot the Brahmas but trailed 1-0 after one.
The second period was a scoreless one as both teams refused to give an inch. Lone Star nabbed a 2-0 lead in the third on a squeaker at 3:37. The RoadRunners cut the lead in half when Quinn Preston shoveled a loose puck into the net at 7:48 and the 2-1 score set up a tense finish, but in the end, the Brahmas held on for the win, capping the 2015-16 regular season.
Topeka finishes the season at 34-24-2 while the Brahmas end up at 39-11-9. These two teams will square off beginning next week in the NAHL South Division Semi Finals, a best-of-five series with Lone Star set to host Games 1, 2, and 5 while the RoadRunners host Games 3 and 4.
