The Elkhart EXPRESS continue to gear up for their inaugural season in the International Basketball League by signing Darmetreis Kilgore, a standout at South Bend's Washington High, and Purdue University.
Darmetreis Kilgore, the leading scorer for the International Basketball League's Grand Rapids Flight in 2005, and a former star at Washington High School, will bring his high-energy game to the Elkhart EXPRESS this spring. Kilgore, 6 feet 7, is the third player to sign with the EXPRESS-an expansion team of the IBL. President and Head Coach Daimon Beathea believes Kilgore will complement Harold Swanagan and Lazarus Sims, Elkhart's other signed players. "I think that by adding Darmetreis, you not only have a credible name in this area, but you also bring a wealth of talent," said Beathea. "He can fly. He's a scorer, and he brings the toughness of the Big 10 with him." Kilgore is best known in the Michiana area for his play at Washington High in the late 90's. He was named first team All-Indiana during his junior and senior season with the Panthers, and was a McDonald's All-American candidate as a senior.
After spending two years at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, Kilgore transferred to Purdue University. Purdue's scouting report on Kilgore described him as "an athletic wing player with tremendous leaping ability," as well as "a deadly shot behind the arc."
While with the Grand Rapids Flight, Kilgore averaged 18.4 points per game, and was named to the IBL All Star Team.
The Elkhart EXPRESS will play a 22 game schedule from March 31st to June 30th, 2006, including 12 home games at Elkhart's North Side Gym. The IBL All-Star Game and Championship Tournament will also be played in Elkhart, July 13th through 16th.
Season Tickets are now available for $110 (adult 18 and up, courtside). $60 (adult, lower reserved) and $36 (17 and under, lower reserved).
