New York Lizards News Release

New York, N.Y. (November 3, 2004) - The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premiere professional outdoor lacrosse league, today named Jim Mulé the team's new head coach, according to general manager Brad Cronin. Mulé, who served as assistant coach for the Philadelphia Barrage last year, replaces Vinnie Sombrotto, who stepped down following the 2004 season.

Mulé (pronounced mewl-AYE) joins the Lizards after four successful years with the Barrage organization, two as a player and two as an assistant coach. The East Meadow native helped lead the Lizards' American Division rivals to their first Major League Lacrosse title in 2004.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity the Lizards organization has afforded me," said Mulé. "I look forward to bringing the MLL Championship back to Long Island where it belongs."

Selected in the second round (12th overall) of the 2001 MLL Inaugural Draft, Mulé was the Barrage's starting goalie for much of the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

After his retirement following the 2002 campaign, he joined former Lizard Sal LoCascio behind the Barrage bench in 2003. He was a vital contributor to the team's improvement from perennial last-place finishers to MLL Champions in 2004.

Mulé, 36, was also a member of the U.S. team that defeated Canada two games to none to win the 1999 World Cup of Lacrosse. A 1990 graduate of St. John's University, he currently resides in Dix Hills, NY with his wife Jamie and their two children.

"We are extremely excited to have Jimmy be the new captain to steer the Lizards' ship," said Ray Suris, a member of the Lizards' local operating group. "He brings the respect of having played and being a championship lacrosse coach to our franchise."

Mulé joins Baltimore Bayhawks player-coach Gary Gait as the only current MLL head coaches who also have Major League Lacrosse playing experience, which may be a good omen. Two of the last three head coaches to win league titles-LoCascio (Philadelphia, 2004) and Gait (Baltimore, 2002)-boasted MLL playing experience prior to winning a championship.

Mulé succeeds Sombrotto, who spent one season as the Lizards head coach after winning an MLL championship with the Lizards as both a player (2001) and an assistant coach (2003). He will remain with the team in a player personnel and development capacity.

Lizards 2005 tickets are available now, with single-game ticket prices as low as $10. For more information, contact the Lizards ticket office at 1-866-LIZARD-1.
